Bodybuilding is a process of modifying the whole structure of the body through intense development of muscles. The person who undergoes this kind of physical activity is often called a bodybuilder. In competitions the professional body builders display their body structure  in front of the jury members .They  are entrusted with the job of giving marks based on the type of physique and appearance of the bodybuilder. Bodybuilding wasn’t that popular before the 19th century. A man named Eugen Sandow mainly promoted this bodybuilding.  He is the actual pioneer of this famous body building. He could make the crowd enjoy watching his great body. A film known as the “The Great Zeigfeld”   which released in the year 1936 was based on the modern bodybuilding. The film won few Oscars as well.  Nat Pedleton acted in the role of Sandow the one of the greatest bodybuilders of all time. Sandow gained huge success and popularity all over the world and soon started endorsing various products in his own name. He is even said to be the inventor of few of the exercise equipments .These include dumbbells, pulleys, and many others.  His image gained huge popularity and was all over the magazines, cards etc at that time. Sandow was regarded as the perfect gracilian. This actually refers to a standard which resembled ancient Greek statues.  In the year 1901 a great body building competition was held in London at the Albert Hall .This entire event was organized by Sandow himself. William .L.Murray, an Englishman from Nottinghamshire emerged victorious.  He was honored with a statue of Sandow, made of Bronze. In today’s world the most world famous bodybuilding competition is the “Mr. Olympia “event. There is an interesting fact. The winner is given the old statue of  Sandow made of bronze. Charles Atlas, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is some of the world famous bodybuilders of today’s world. The title of Mr. Olympia is being currently held by James Cutler. This man is from the United States.

The bodybuilders and most athletes take bodybuilding supplements. These are actually dietary supplements. These consist of protein, pro hormones, fatty acids, steroids and hard core testosterone boosters. It is to be noted that some of the body building supplements are highly harmful for the body. Body building supplements are highly popular these days.  They are advertised in through various media like magazines etc.

Bodybuilders are often asked to take proteins in powdered form. The proteins provide the building blocks which are so much essential for the development of muscles. Generally this powdered protein is put in to a shaker bottle containing water or juice which results in a kind of ‘shake’. These shaker bottles are usually provided with mesh inside so that the mixture dissolves well in the liquid .Bodybuilders generally are advised to take powdered protein as a pre workout supplement or after the completion of the exercise. This supplement allows proper growth of the muscles. It also helps to repair the muscles. Protein powders are widely available in the market. They even have various flavors like strawberry, vanilla etc. Some of the supplements even guarantee fat loss, proper development of the muscles etc.

Whey protein consists of   different kinds of amino acids. It has the highest amount of cysteine. Cysteine is a kind of amino acid which helps to biosynthesize glutathione. Whey protein even helps in repairment   of various muscle tissues. Whey protein is mainly of two types. One is in concentrated form and the other is in isolated form. Generally a human body has the capability to metabolize proteins of the amount close to 9 grams in each hour. It must be noted that regular intake of protein may cause harm to the body. It may cause kidney related problems like Osteoporosis, increase in body weight. The body is not capable of storing protein; hence it is either burnt out through form of exercise or gets stored in the body in the form of fats.

There are few vitamins and chemicals which is said to increase the testosterone levels of human beings. However it is still doubtful as it has not yet gone through the scientific testing. Some of the popular testosterone boosters are the Tribulus terrestris, ZMA etc. However it must be noted that excess testosterone may give rise to a number of side effects. These may lead to testicular atrophy, hair loss and various other undesirable effects.
